POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN SPANISH FOR TEACHING AT POST PRIMARY LEVEL
The Postgraduate Certificate in Spanish for Teaching at Post-Primary Level aims to provide domestic and international candidates with an opportunity to complete the subject-specific credits they require in order to be able to submit themselves for accreditation through the Teaching Council of Ireland. It is particularly suitable for holders of a BA and HDip/PME who already teach in the post-primary system and want to add Spanish as an additional subject to their skillset; it will also be of interest to international candidates (including native speakers of Spanish), who have completed their teacher education, have had it approved by the Teaching Council, but require up to 30 ECTS credits in Spanish to register as teachers of the language. This programme has been specifically tailored to meet the Teaching Council of Ireland’s requirements for registration as an accredited Spanish teacher at post-primary level. The programme offers intensive studies in the areas of Spanish translation, literary/cultural studies of the Spanish-speaking world, and Spanish language pedagogy. In this way, it aims to enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of important concepts in Spanish language and literature, culture and society, including their didactic and methodological application.

Analytical Science
Are you interested in how analytical science can help make a better world? Interested in using scientific analysis to help make a better world? Analytical science is the science of detection and measurement. We benefit from it every day, from purity checks of medicines to industrial waste monitoring or the analysis in forensic laboratories. In a world deluged by data, analytical scientists can help make sense of things and solve problems of critical importance. During this interdisciplinary course, you will learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of chemical, biochemical and microbiological analysis. In first year, you’ll gain essential background knowledge in chemistry, biology, mathematics and physics, and get hands-on laboratory experience. From second year on, you’ll focus on analytical science and from third year, you’ll specialise in either chemical or biological analysis. Building real-world capabilities In third year, you’ll do an INTRA work placement, gaining vital real-world experience. In your final year, you’ll focus on specialised methods and applications, along with a full-time project in the final semester, helping you to develop your own approach to solving complex problems. As a graduate, you’ll be sought after in sectors such as biopharmaceuticals, public health, cosmetic laboratories, manufacturing, brewing, environmental monitoring, government and education. Typical roles could include process development, validation and quality control roles in contexts such as chemical, forensic and medicinal analysis laboratories, hospital laboratories, medicinal and analytical research and manufacturing plants. You can also choose to continue with further studies in research and development or teaching.

Can you imagine supporting an elite athlete to the heights of their career or helping to coach a team to be among the best in the world? That’s exactly what many of our Sports Science and Health graduates do, while many others make a massive impact in the community, helping people of all ages to enjoy and benefit from sport and exercise. During this course, you’ll learn how to enhance health and human performance, and how to advocate for and champion a healthy, educated and active society. You’ll encounter a range of teaching methods, including practical sessions, and develop key skills you can use in any career, including creative and critical thinking. Understand the possibilities You’ll study anatomy, behaviour change, coaching, nutrition, physiology, psychology, sociology and more, understanding these topics as they apply to people of all ages and in contexts from general health through to elite sport performance. To gain on-the-ground experience, you’ll do a six-month INTRA programme work placement in third year. As a Sport Science and Health graduate, you could go on to work as a performance analyst, performance coach, laboratory technician or health promotion officer. Alternatively, you could go on to a masters or professional doctorate in elite sport, health promotion, strength and conditioning, nutrition, psychology, physiology, physiotherapy or advanced entry medicine.

Physical Education with Mathematics

Once you graduate from this course, you can teach these subjects up to Leaving Cert level or choose from a wide range of other exciting career paths.
