You’ll also gain practical skills in programming languages such as R and Python, data visualisation and storytelling. Helping shape and understand our future During the course, you’ll develop a diverse set of transferable skills, including high-level digital innovation, problem-solving skills, advanced interpretation of data and human behaviour, an awareness of how to address the challenges posed by disruptive technologies and an understanding of how to build trust in digital interactions. The BSc in Psychology and Mathematics is the first course in Ireland to integrate these subjects, preparing students for a career combining the interpretation of human behaviour with high-level numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills. By doing this course, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge and understanding of each discipline alongside a broad critical perspective on contemporary society. You’ll delve into the different fields of psychology along with studying calculus, probability, computing, statistics and data analysis. Research literacy is also a core focus. Moreover, you’ll study applied subjects such as coding and cryptography, which integrate psychology and maths Vital transferable skills You’ll also develop a diverse set of transferable skills, all increasingly demanded by Irish and international employers. These include an understanding of human behaviour, critical thinking, problem-solving, research methods, communication, and the ability to disseminate findings to varied audiences. In third year, you’ll gain practical experience during your INTRA work placement, which could be in neuroscience, finance, health, organisational or corporate psychology, or applied behaviour analysis. Psychology
Are you fascinated by the human mind and human behaviour? Would you like to understand how we think, act, react and interact, and use your knowledge and skills to help people? A career in psychology could be perfect for you. This Psychological Society of Ireland-accredited course was the first psychology programme in Ireland to offer a work placement opportunity. In third year, you’ll do an INTRA placement in a clinical, corporate or other environment. While psychologists differ in their interests and the type of work they do, they all approach the study of behaviour in a scientific way. During the course, you’ll gain knowledge, skills and experience in all core areas in psychology. With a maximum of 40 students in each year group, you’ll benefit from access to academic staff and support as you need it. Build a toolkit of valuable skills You’ll also develop visual, written, and communication skills, transferable to many areas of professional work and engagement. These include skills in problem solving, numeracy and statistics, critical, creative and innovative thinking, decision making, communication and leadership, health literacy, organisation, team working and IT. As a graduate, you may go on to further study in a specialism, such as research psychology, clinical psychology, counselling, education, organisational or occupational psychology, sports psychology or biopsychology. Biological Sciences General Entry
If you’re endlessly fascinated by how living things function and keen to make a contribution to humanity, biological sciences will appeal to you. By choosing this general entry course, you can discover more about molecules, cells and life, develop your scientific skills and discover different specialist study and career paths. During the General Entry course, you’ll study biochemistry, bioprocessing, biotechnology, genetics, cell biology and microbiology, while also completing some modules in chemistry, physics and mathematics. Once you successfully pass this first year, you’ll go on to one of three programmes: the BSc in Genetics and Cell Biology, the BSc in Biotechnology or the BSc in Bioprocessing. Overall, our biological sciences modules are designed to help address challenges relevant to the biotechnology, biopharma and related industries. They incorporate innovative ways of teaching, and you’ll learn by tackling real-world challenges, both on your own and in groups. Regardless of which programme you go onto, you’ll do a nine-month INTRA work placement in your third year. This is typically in Ireland's thriving biopharma industry, with employers such as Pfizer, Amgen, Biogen and MSD. Biological science grads find they are sought after as process scientists, validation engineers and quality control scientists, especially in the production of biological products, such as therapeutic drugs.

Common Entry into Actuarial and Financial Mathematics
Want to use your love of and talent for mathematics to set yourself apart on the job market? If you’d like to qualify for in-demand quantitative roles in the insurance and financial industry, the Common Entry into Actuarial and Financial Mathematics programme (CAFM) might be for you. It’s especially ideal if you’d like the flexibility to explore different areas of maths before choosing how you’ll specialise. After this two-year course, you choose whether to spend the next two years studying to get a degree in Actuarial Mathematics (ACM) or in Financial Mathematics (FIM). The modules taken in CAFM are the same as in years 1 and 2 of its twin programme Actuarial Mathematics (ACM), to which you can apply directly through the CAO. Therefore, CAFM offers an alternative route into ACM. Entry into FIM, on the other hand, is guaranteed and exclusive through CAFM. Deep theory and expert skills You’ll learn the fundamental mathematical principles that underpin the state-of-the-art actuarial and financial models you’ll study in later years, along with computer programming, data analysis, economics and accounting. You’ll also gain highly valuable general analytic skills, allowing you to understand and analyse matters in a systematic way, making you an ideal problem-solver. Whichever path you choose after the first two years, you’ll do an eight-month paid internship in your third year. This could be in a large insurance company, an actuarial consultancy, an investment bank or a trading house. Mechatronic Engineering
Want to build the robots of the future? If you’re fascinated by robotics and automation, this is the course to do. This course all about how we build intelligent machines through the meeting of mechanical systems such as engines and machines with the electronics needed to control them. This course perfectly blends mechanical engineering and electronic engineering. It offers classes in 3D modelling and design, for example, as well as circuit design and programming. Our students and staff are intrigued and inspired by the interplay between electronics and moving parts in connected devices and state-of-the-art machinery. Gain knowledge for the real world In third year, you’ll get to do a six-month INTRA work placement and throughout the course, you’ll do lots of project-based learning where you use the latest real-world tools and technologies to solve problems and, of course, build robots. That’s not all. You’ll also take some business-based modules, so you can learn how to develop a business plan and work with other parts of an enterprise. While you can go on from this course to work in either mechanical or electrical engineering, our graduates typically end up in roles where they incorporate one into the other. Mechanical and Sustainability Engineering
Transitioning to zero carbon is one of the biggest challenges faced by humanity. Students who do this innovative programme will be ready to tackle the huge challenges thrown up by climate change, while also being mindful of the environmental impact of any engineering work they do. This programme merges practical engineering with theory. It provides rigorous engineering training and will be accredited by Engineers Ireland, but it also encompasses extensive learning around climate and sustainability issues. State-of-the-art learning While a student on this course, you’ll use new technologies to learn through immersive challenge-based learning. Science Education
If you love science and maths, and would like to share your enthusiasm, interest and knowledge with young people, you’ll thrive on the BSc in Science Education. Science and maths teachers work to develop their pupils’ understanding of the world around them and to educate future generations of scientists, engineers and technologists, not to mention citizens who are scientifically, mathematically and technically literate. You’ll build a strong foundation in key areas of education, mathematics and either physics or chemistry, developing essential mathematical thinking skills, and scientific practices and ways of working throughout the four years. You’ll also study the history, psychology, sociology and philosophy of education, as well as undertaking curriculum studies. Gaining practical real-world experience During the course, you’ll spend at least 24 weeks on placement in post-primary schools and you can also complete a 12-week paid internship in industry as part of the STEM Teacher Internship programme. You’ll develop digital literacy and digital skills so you are ready to teach in remote or blended learning environments as well as face-to-face. Once you’ve completed this Teaching Council-approved course, you’ll be qualified to teach mathematics and either physics or chemistry to Leaving Certificate level. Our graduates are known to be creative, highly skilled and highly motivated, and are much sought after as post-primary teachers. Those who decide teaching is not for them can pursue a career in technical training or scientific communication, for example, given their strong STEM training.
