This is a three-year, full-time course in practical drama training and education. TU Dublin Conservatory has over 25 years’ experience in drama training and is one of the leading centres of education in the performing arts in Ireland. Our graduates have had national and international success as actors, directors, drama facilitators and drama researchers. You’ll study fundamental acting techniques, voice and language in performance (including Shakespeare), and performance in a variety of cultural, historical and aesthetic contexts. You’ll develop your body through movement, singing, dance and combat. You’ll learn how to use drama in social and educational contexts through performance and running workshops, and how to analyse and write about a wide range of drama and performance. Over the three years, there are two small-scale productions and large-scale graduating production. While practical performance is at the core of the course, you’ll be required to undertake substantial academic research and analysis as well. This four-year course focuses on the creation and study of games. It covers the design and development of digital and analogue games, including PC, mobile, Web, card and board games. Topics include in-depth analysis of games, practical hands-on development experience and theoretical game studies. Along the way, you’ll also learn important industry skills such as programming, game design, digital media asset creation, project management and game publishing. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the concepts, theories and models of game design and how they can be applied to both commercial and serious game development. You will be able to analyse and determine multiple approaches to game design, gameplay mechanics, UI controls and the context within which they’re used. You’ll use advanced skills from specialist areas to achieve goals, including the design and implementation of complex game systems, documentation of the design process, testing and publishing games. In Year 3, this is a focus on gaining real-world experience. Students will have the opportunity to get experience working with an external serious game partner, industry work experience or study abroad through an Erasmus exchange. During the course, you will be continuously making games, from Year 1 to Year 4. You will work on both individual and team projects. Teamwork is an essential skill in the games industry and you will work in different teams to develop important soft skills such as communications and group decision making. In your final year, you will complete a major game project demonstrating your full range of design and development skills.

Industrial Mathematics is a branch of mathematics that is concerned with developing mathematical methods and applying them to engineering, science and industry. This course has been carefully structured to offer the training, transferable skills and knowledge that employers in the commercial, financial, industrial and public sectors seek in graduates. A particular focus of the course is the analysis and solution of real-world mathematical problems. It is designed to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge required to apply mathematical modelling and an analytical approach to real-world problems in industry. Years 1 and 2, on TU874, give a broad basis of subjects in applied and pure mathematics, statistics, and operational research. Introducing mathematical modelling and relevant topics in computing are also important features of years 1 and 2. Years 3 and 4 consist of advanced modules in mathematical modelling, financial mathematics, operations research and mathematical statistics. Many of these modules integrate industry relevant software. Throughout the course, there is an emphasis on laboratory-based work and problem-based learning via mathematical modelling, computer programming, computer applications, case studies and problem-solving, and the development of professional skills (e.g. communication skills, effective team-work strategies and project management). The course includes a six-month work placement during year 3 enabling students to experience a working environment and gain experience of using their analytical, problem solving and computer skills.
