The BA (Cumarsáid & Gaeilge) is a creative and lively four-year degree in media and Irish which is taught entirely through Irish. It covers the latest thinking and research in the fast-changing world of digital media, and provides a balanced mix of academic study and practical, hands-on learning in journalism, television and radio production, broadcasting and multimedia, together with a thorough grounding in Irish language and literature and a focus on Gaeltacht heritage and culture. Law regulates all aspects of society: from marriage and parenting to corporate governance or international relations between countries. To study law is to become aware of one’s legal rights and responsibilities in a variety of contexts, as well as to acquire knowledge and the research, writing and advocacy skills that enable one to argue both sides of a complex situation and devise a pragmatic, client-focused solution. Law (BCL) and Human Rights

The four-year Bachelor of Civil Law (Human Rights) is an innovative and unique programme – the first of its kind in Ireland. It offers students the opportunity to combine a full undergraduate law programme with the study of human rights. The study of human rights involves gaining an understanding of how the international human rights treaties function as tools to ensure that states respect and protect the equal human dignity of all people. Students will learn about how human rights law develops, including the influence of activism and grassroots movements for social change. Human rights are not just legal concepts; therefore students on this course will have the opportunity to gain philosophical and political insights that will broaden their knowledge and deepen their critical thinking skills. Students will also study emerging areas of human rights law and contemporary issues of large-scale injustice such as climate change, the environment and human rights; data privacy; refugee rights; poverty; and business and human rights. Master of (Fine Art in Studio Art)

This two-year full-time programme is designed to educate artists to a level appropriate to professional practice or progression to doctoral studies. Progression to PhD can be an option. The MFA is operated as an integrated and progressive learning experience. The modules Studio Research, Historical & Critical Studies and Professional Studies deal with the three main aspects of artistic practice but are operated together as elements of the one holistic experience. The MFA is a joint Burren College of Art/University of Galway programme based at the Burren College of Art. Students register as full students of University of Galway. The programme operates in association with the Royal College of Art, London and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, which provide visiting faculty to the programme.

MSc (Adolescent Health)

The Disciplines of Children’s Studies (College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies) and Paediatrics (College of Medicine, Nursing and Midwifery and Health Sciences) have come together to develop a new postgraduate degree in Adolescent Health. This programme, the first programme of its kind in Europe, provides students with interdisciplinary training in adolescent health grounded in a public health approach. Our programme is specifically aimed at educators, social care workers, youth workers, coaches and health professionals who are passionate about improving the health and well-being of adolescents. Our students will enjoy the flexibility of a Blended Learning approach, which combines online courses with monthly on-campus workshops that are held the first Saturday of each month. The programme can also be completed on either a full-time (one year) or part-time (two year) basis, allowing students to complete the programme around their personal schedules. Through our rigorous curriculum, our students learn how to define the health and developmental needs of adolescents, design strategies to address those needs, and evaluate the effectiveness of adolescent health policies and programmes.
