Sports Performance - MSc
The aims and objectives of this programme, which includes a professional strength & conditioning (accredited) qualification, reflect our commitment to the development of insightful, competent, critical and reflective sports performance practitioners who have the following dispositions, skills, and content knowledge: Display originality and insight in the field of strength and conditioning for team and individual sports. Demonstrate the skills of utilising video notational analysis to provide feedback to individuals participating in strength sports and/or in a strength training environment. Understand nutritional planning for elite sports performance. Understand psychological principles underlying elite sports performance and demonstrate the application of psychological skills training to optimise sports performance Construct a variety of integrated training practices combining sport-specific skills and related conditioning challenges to optimise player development and progression. Demonstrate an appreciation of current research within the area of speed sports. Organise and perform lab and field-based skills related to research on selected human movement activity and defend the results. Graduates will develop a sound understanding of the physiology, psychology and biomechanics background behind sports performance for speed, endurance, team and strength sports.

Foundation Programme in Education and Training

This course puts you on the road to being a qualified trainer and also offers a pathway to DCU’s BSc in Education and Training. For anyone interested in becoming a professional trainer or educator, this course opens up a whole world of opportunities. There is a strong demand for educators and trainers across Ireland, and you can use the skills and knowledge gained on the course in a range of settings - from individual communities, through to large organisations. Training for Success Explore all aspects of education and training, learn the key theories behind education, community development, instructional and training design and organisational learning; and master the skills to confidently deliver quality education and training across a range of environments. This course is delivered collaboratively with Whitehall College of Further Education. During term time, learners will spend one day a week in DCU and four days in Whitehall College of Further Education. The DCU modules will be delivered at first year degree level and are part of the suite of modules offered on the BSc in Education and Training (DC235).
