Podiatric Medicine is a branch of medicine devoted to the medical and surgical treatment of the foot, ankle and lower limb. A podiatrist is an autonomous clinician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of lower limb conditions. This four-year programme, offered in partnership with the Health Service Executive West, leads to the award of Bachelor of Nursing Science (Mental Health Nursing) and eligibility for registration in the Psychiatric Division of the Nurses’ Register, maintained by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), the nursing profession’s regulatory body. The BSc. (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing will provide students with knowledge, skills, attitude, and professional behaviours necessary to provide high quality care and competent nursing practice in an ever-changing health care environment. Mental Health Nursing aims to assist in the recovery of people experiencing mental health issues and to promote mental health and wellbeing. At the heart of mental health nursing is the development of therapeutic relationships, engaging with service users, their carers and their families.

The Bachelor of Midwifery Science course is a four-year degree programme provided in partnership with the Health Service Executive (HSE) West. The programme consists of theoretical and clinical modules. The theoretical content aims to provide students with the knowledge necessary to underpin their professional practice. It comprises lectures, seminars, workshops, experiential learning, skills training and reading time. Clinical modules are undertaken in the practice setting. Following completion of the programme, students are eligible to apply to register as a midwife with An Bord Altranais, the regulatory body.

The Bachelor of Nursing Science (General) course is a four-year degree programme that will qualify you as a nurse. Successful students are awarded the Bachelor of Nursing Science (General) degree and are eligible to apply to register with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the nursing profession’s regulatory body. The programme is offered in partnership with the Health Service Executive (HSE) West. The first three years are run within the academic year and include a combination of theory modules and clinical practice modules. Practice modules will require students to be in clinical practice for 35 hours per week. Year four comprises clinical/theory instruction in semester one and a 36-week internship of clinical practice which runs from January to September. During this period, the student will be an employee of the HSE West and paid a salary. The theoretical component comprises lectures, seminars, workshops, experiential learning, skills training and reading time.

Occupational Therapy is an interesting and rewarding career. Occupational Therapists aim to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. As an Occupational Therapist you will assist in enabling individuals to do things that enhance their ability to live independently in their daily ‘occupations’. ‘Occupation’ is the term used to describe those tasks and activities essential for daily life – washing, dressing , feeding and moving around, to the more complex areas of working, leisure, socialising and managing finances and home. Illness or trauma or social disadvantage can result in difficulties in these areas. Occupational Therapists design and deliver intervention programmes to address these difficulties.

Speech and language therapists enable people with communication disorders and swallowing disorders to achieve their maximum potential. They are involved in assessing clients’ communication and swallowing difficulties, and developing treatment programmes to meet their specific needs. They work closely with other members of the team, such as nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, teachers, etc, and work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, primary care health centres and schools.The Bachelor of Science Speech and Language Therapy programme is accredited by both the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists (IASLT) (professional body) and CORU (regulatory body). Our mission statement is: “To prepare speech and language therapists in training to become competent clinicians and independent lifelong learners, by providing a supportive learning environment to explore relevant theory and apply it to clinical practice, with an emphasis on lived experiences and evidence.” Our curriculum is spiral in nature which means that we revisit topics and themes throughout the programme to deepen students’ knowledge and skills. There is a clear, transparent, pathway to facilitate the development of competencies across the four years. Students must undertake clinical placements, under the supervision of qualified speech and language therapists, in a range of settings to develop clinical competencies. We also have a purpose-built speech and language therapy on-site clinic on campus. This clinic is a unique collaboration between University of Galway, the health services, and Voices for Down syndrome Galway. Students undertake some of their clinical placements in this facility. The on-site clinic has the dual function of delivering high quality services to the public while at the same time providing a supportive learning environment for SLTs in training.We use innovative and creative teaching, learning, and assessment methods to facilitate students to link theory with practice The curriculum is delivered by a dynamic reflective team that is committed to excellence.

This master's programme will provide students with an in-depth understanding of the technology used in modern astronomical observatories through taught courses and a research project. With continuing advances in the technologies that are used to sequence DNA, medical applications of genomics are becoming increasingly important. It is now possible to diagnose rare genetic diseases from genomic sequences, while sequencing of tumours has become an important means of refining therapeutic choices in cancer treatment. Business plans will be developed based on the 24 steps, and will include an executive summary, vision and values, market analysis/segmentation and competition, a product and manufacturing plan, a sales plan, a financial plan, and a marketing plan.
