Are you unsure which engineering niche is right for you? You may need time to figure this out. This Common Entry course offers a mix of electronic, electrical, computer, robotics and mechanical. You can sample core engineering modules in first year so that you can decide which area of engineering you enjoy most before choosing the area you want to pursue in subsequent years. On successful completion of the course, students will have the mathematical and scientific basis to successfully enter the second year of seven different Level 7 discipline-specific courses. Students apply for TU708 Bachelor of Engineering on your CAO application. In first year, you’ll complete core modules in engineering, so you can find out which area of the subject interests you most. Modules include Digital Electronics, Engineering Science, Fundamentals of Calculus, Electrical Science, Electronic Communications and Professional Development for Engineers. At the end of Year 1, you can choose to enter into Year 2 of either Computer Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering (both Level 7 courses).

The course is designed so that you’ll develop the skills and competencies required of a chemical analyst at all stages. On graduation, you’ll be qualified to avail of opportunities in the pharmaceutical, chemical, computer and food & beverage industries, state laboratories, environmental testing laboratories, and hospital labs and universities. Networking Technology is about designing and building computer networks and involves the physical installation and commissioning of networks and connection to the Internet. As a student, you will acquire the technical skills and knowledge necessary for a career in IT and computer networking. You will acquire a grounding in computer networking technologies, electronics, communications and web development, together with a knowledge of business operations and project management. This course has an emphasis on continuous assessment, and you’ll learn by doing and working with hands-on applications rather than entirely from theory. You’ll learn how to diagnose, repair and maintain computer and network hardware and system software, how to support all peripheral equipment that connects to computer networks, and gain experience in controlling external devices using computers. The course incorporates modules from Cisco Systems. Cisco is the leading networking company, and you will have the opportunity to acquire a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) qualification. Software is also an integral part of all networks, so you will be able to install and maintain a wide range of network and system software, including operating systems, such as Windows and Linux. You will gain valuable skills in network security, and web design and services.

Dispensing Opticians are eye care professionals who are trained to interpret prescriptions issued by optometrists or ophthalmologists and to dispense spectacles and other optical aids. They advise patients on the most appropriate spectacle frames, lenses or other optical aids based on their individual needs taking into account the prescription, occupation and lifestyle of the patient. They are trained to take the measurements required for the fitting of such optical appliances. Dispensing Opticians also check spectacles and other appliances to ensure they match the patient’s specification and meet the required standards. They advise patients on how to get the best from their eyewear and play an important role in aftercare and the maintenance of such appliances. Dispensing opticians play a vital role in providing the best low vision aid for partially sighted patients and the best fitting frame and lens design for children. They are also trained to advise on sports and protective eyewear. Subsequent to further qualification, they may fit contact lenses. Dispensing opticians are often involved in optical practice management. A career as a dispensing optician is extremely rewarding. It offers great variety and will deliver a high degree of job satisfaction to those attracted to a career in an allied healthcare setting, who have an interest in maths and science, relish problem solving and enjoy interacting with the public. All Optometry and Ophthalmic Dispensing undergraduates are required to insert drops, contact lenses and probes (with ocular anaesthetic) into fellow students’ eyes and allow fellow students to insert the same into their eyes during the course of their course. All procedures will be carried out in a safe, clean, clinical environment under the supervision of an optometry faculty member.

Over the three years, you’ll be introduced to the technical, regulatory and management aspects of pharmaceutical development and manufacturing. In Year 1, you’ll gain fundamental knowledge in chemistry and biology. In Years 2 and 3, you’re introduced to pharmaceutical-focused modules. In third year, you can do a 6-8 month placement in one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Ireland or complete an Erasmus research-focused placement in a European university. We have a fourth-generation artificial playing surface, a fully equipped gym, large sports hall, a video performance analysis laboratory and a high-performance training coaching space. Sports Management and Coaching students provide coaching and fitness support as personal trainers to the staff and sports scholarship athletes of the university, as well as coaching support to the primary school in the local area.

A key focus of the course is on applied management and business subjects; for example, accounting, information technology, human resource management, marketing and communications. These are complemented by more tourism- and field-specific subjects, such as tourism studies, sustainable tourism, tourism policy and planning, tourism service operations, and heritage, culture and tourism. A European language is provided as an optional module on this course.

You present this project at the end of the year as an installation in a retail outlet.

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a one year programme run by TU Dublin. It has been developed for international students who need language and/or academic preparation for further study on undergraduate programmes in Ireland.

This core aspect of the programme is project-driven with practical objectives that aim to develop an understanding of how creative design practice integrates with commercial production and business strategy.
