Neuroscience (M.Sc.)

Neuroscience is a discipline concerned with the scientific study of the nervous system in health and disease. Research in the neurosciences is of considerable clinical impact considering the debilitating and costly effects of neurological and psychiatric disease. In this regard, a major goal of modern neuroscience research is to elucidate the underlying causes (genetic or environmental) of major brain diseases, and to produce more effective treatments for major psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression, and neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, motor neurone disease and epilepsy. Improved treatment strategies for brain disorders relies entirely on increased understanding gained from research which integrates molecular, cellular and clinical aspects of disease. In this regard it is clear that interdisciplinary approaches are necessary to understand the complex processes which underlie brain function in health and disease.

MPsychSc Psychological Science

The focus of this programme is on acquiring basic applied psychology skills to equip you for doctoral studies in clinical, counselling, educational or organisational psychology, or for progressing to a PhD in psychological research. Over the course of the year students work with a staff member to complete a research project. In keeping with the skills-based focus of the programme, the research is written up as a journal article that conforms to the publication style of an identified journal. Applicants are invited to review the research areas of the School's Academic Staff. In most cases, students work on one of their supervisor's ongoing research projects.

Physiotherapy (Professional Qualification), MSc

Building on the success of the existing professional qualification programmes (MSc in Occupational Therapy and MSc in Speech and Language Therapy), School of Allied Health offers a two-year Masters (Professional Qualification) in Physiotherapy. The Master Qualifier contains the same modules as our Masters. Students on the Masters Qualifier Programme may transfer onto the Masters programme, subject to the transfer requirements and without loss of accumulated credits. A Graduate Certificate exit award is potentially available if a transfer to the Masters Programme is not possible or desirable however, a minimum of 4 advanced (Level 9) modules must be successfully completed in order to exit with a Graduate Certificate.
