You’ll gain a thorough knowledge of horticulture science, encompassing life sciences, the chemical and physical sciences, and the mathematical and statistical techniques involved in designing experiments and data analytics. Our hands-on teaching approach will give you opportunities to develop skills through real-life practical projects, often engaging with local community groups to design and build gardens to a brief and within a set budget. The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with a language combines a full Irish law degree with the study of the law, language and culture of one of three European countries: France, Germany or Spain. Students learn about legal rules and systems, why they exist, how they have developed and how they relate to social and economic goals. Whilst the focus is on Irish law, students will obtain a grounding in the law and legal system of one other European country. In addition, upon completion of the degree, students will have reached C1 standard in their chosen language on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

They’re involved in the design products and the efficient management of resources and technology to produce quality goods and services for society. One of their key roles is developing more innovative products, resulting in a high value-added manufacturing sector. Their skills and knowledge can be applied across a broad spectrum of the engineering sector. In this course, you’ll acquire the right mix of technical, managerial and communication skills that will equip you for a wide range of careers in a broad spectrum of industries. You’ll learn about the structure and operation of a manufacturing enterprise and the planning and simulation tools needed to help make cost-effective decisions. You’ll acquire team-working and innovation and entrepreneurial skills. The course also aims to produce environmentally responsible engineers, who will conduct manufacturing activities with due regard to the environment and regulatory and legal requirements. You undertake a major project over the two final semesters. As part of this project, you have the opportunity to become involved in the student competition to design and build a race car and compete against other universities in Silverstone UK.

It’s all about using science, maths and technology to find better ways of making mechanical and electro-mechanical things work, such as designing electric vehicles to reduce pollution, designing enabling devices for people with a disability or improving the design of a wind turbine. This course will give you the knowledge and competencies that you can apply in many fields of industry and research, including an excellent foundation in engineering science and maths, advanced design theory and practice, high-quality project work and practical workshop/laboratory hands-on skills. On graduation, you will be able to identify and define a mechanical engineering challenge, formulate and analyse effective and sustainable solutions, and implement the best solution; design mechanical and mechanical-related systems, components and processes; and conduct advanced mechanical engineering research, involving the analysis and interpretation of research data, to attain useful empirical and scientific engineering knowledge. You’ll be able to practice as a professional mechanical engineer on an individual basis, within team-based frameworks and as a contributor to multidisciplinary settings.

Students choosing the Level 8 General Engineering course in Tallaght Campus will have the option in Year 1 to choose between Mechanical, Biomedical and Automation Engineering. They are still the same well known and highly commended courses offered in previous years at TU Dublin Tallaght, only this year we combined the first few modules to give students more time to choose their specialisation. Engineers are in extremely high demand right now in Ireland and globally with exponential growth in job opportunities, especially in the Mechanical, Automation and Biomedical sector. This level 8 course takes 4 years to complete and we ensure that additional tutorials are available for any students who may require additional academic support. The three Engineering disciplines pride themselves on graduating students who are industry-ready after 4 years. Students experience innovative teaching in modern laboratories and lectures. They can visit engineering companies, travel abroad for a semester or year to our partner Universities in France, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Austria, China or seek work placements through our close links with engineering companies and past graduates in industry. Engineering graduates are trained to be creative and inventive, and to solve difficult problems such as the development of new technologies from jet engines to robots to artificial hip implants to hybrid cars and train components.

Medical Devices encompasses all products, except medicines, used in healthcare for the diagnosis, prevention, monitoring or treatment of illness or disability. Examples include contact lenses, orthopedic joint replacement, programmable pacemakers, stents, ventilators and laser surgical devices. The medical technology industry in Ireland is changing from being predominantly manufacturing based to becoming increasingly complex, value added and driven by R&D. It now involves the extensive collaboration of a broad range of partners, including research institutions, clinicians, manufacturing companies and government agencies. The course is designed to provide students with a range of knowledge and skills for employment in a medical device environment. The medical device industry provides graduate opportunities in design, manufacturing, technical services, customer support and a range of other services that add value to the sector. The course was formulated with industry input in response to a number of recommendations highlighted in the March 2008 Forfás Report on the Future Skills Needs of the Irish Medical Devices Sector. The course specifically addresses the need to upskill scientists, engineers and technologists and the provision of professional development within this sector.

This is a one-year, NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications) Level-8, honours degree course leading to the award of the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Networking Applications & Services. Graduates of this course will be key players in IT (information technology) and communications network management teams. The course provides a solid grounding in the principles of network security and distributed systems, mobile applications, system administration, software development, and M2M (Machine-to-Machine) technology, together with knowledge of management, marketing and law. A significant technical project will complement students’ academic learning outcomes and ensure that on graduation they can immediately apply their skills. The modules of the course rely heavily on computer programming skills, with one module devoted entirely to developing skills in this area, including an examination of Object-Oriented (OO) programming and design techniques. Students will have the opportunity to build mobile applications for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and BlackBerry, and to learn how to deploy them in the market place. Students will learn to install and configure a range of internet server applications such as a Web server and a mail server. Students will study the principles of cryptography and network security, the architecture, algorithms and designs upon which modern distributed systems are based, and the interconnection of systems that employ microcontrollers. Students will learn of the lifecycle of production and delivery and the benefits of adhering to the 7 principles of Universal Design. Finally, a project will provide a challenging practical opportunity to demonstrate students’ assimilation and integration of technical knowledge, analytical competence, aptitude for problem-solving, design creativity, organizational ability, awareness of commercial factors, and interpersonal and communication skills.

In this course, you’ll study structural analysis, mechanics of materials, design of steel and concrete, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, concrete and material technology and design projects. The duration of the course is 3 years, following successful completion of our General Entry first year, TU805.

This course is a direct response to the need to produce innovative graduates with qualifications in the energy field in particular. The first two years of the course will introduce you to the fundamental areas of engineering. Modules in mechanical and electrical engineering are included along with specialist energy and traditional energy sources. In Year 3, you’ll specialise further in transport, efficient energy use and energy design. In your final year, you’ll focus more on smart technologies, simulation and project work. The course will prepare you to work in the energy field by exposing you to the fundamental concepts of energy sources, generation, distribution, consumption and optimisation. You’ll also study more specialised topics such as green technologies, as well as national and international energy markets and how they relate to energy production, consumption and optimisation. This four-year modular honours degree course - fully accredited, managed and delivered by TU Dublin - offers a dynamic and creative education in the Visual Arts.
