The BA (Global Experience) is a highly flexible four-year BA honours degree programme that offers you a wide range of two-subject combinations to degree level. In Year 3 of the programme you will study abroad at one of our partner institutions. This will give you the opportunity to enhance your learning experience and increase your cultural awareness by living and studying in another country. We have partnerships in Europe, the United States, Canada, South America or China, and the programme is open to language and non-language students. You will pursue both of your degree subjects during the period abroad.

Bachelor of Arts (Mathematics and Education)

The BA in Mathematics and Education is a four-year, fulltime honours degree programme which incorporates a teacher training qualification and opportunities for practical teaching experience throughout the four years of its duration. Graduates of the programme will be qualified mathematicians and will be recognised by the Teaching Council of Ireland as qualified postprimary teachers of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics. The programme is jointly run by the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Applied Mathematics and the School of Education of University of Galway. It has been created as a response to the growing need for excellent Mathematics teachers in Irish post-primary schools as well as a general need for qualified mathematicians.

Bachelor of Arts with Human Rights

The Bachelor of Arts with Human Rights is an exciting, four year interdisciplinary degree programme offered by the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies in conjunction with the Irish Centre for Human Rights. The programme is unique in several respects, chiefly because it is the only undergraduate programme of its kind in the Republic of Ireland that allows undergraduates to specialise in a field that was previously reserved to postgraduate study. During the course, students engage with human rights discourse through class-based teaching at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, which is one of one of the world's premier academic human rights institutions, dedicated to the study and promotion of human rights, international criminal law and international humanitarian law.

The BSc (Social Science) programme is aimed at motivated school leavers and mature students who have a strong penchant for the study of some of the most fundamental issues and concerns for modern society and the environment. The programme strongly focuses on the applied nature of the Social Sciences and will equip students with practical research skills, in addition to focussing on career development and readiness, and further educational opportunities. The BA (Cumarsáid & Gaeilge) is a creative and lively four-year degree in media and Irish which is taught entirely through Irish. Law (BCL)

Law regulates all aspects of society: from marriage and parenting to corporate governance or international relations between countries. To study law is to become aware of one’s legal rights and responsibilities in a variety of contexts, as well as to acquire knowledge and the research, writing and advocacy skills that enable one to argue both sides of a complex situation and devise a pragmatic, client-focused solution. The four-year Bachelor of Civil Law allows students to focus their studies on the law to maximise their understanding of the legal process. Students can tailor this degree to particular areas of law that interest them. Throughout the programme there is an emphasis on acquiring the fundamental practical skills required of lawyers – legal research, writing, oral presentation and advocacy. Law (BCL) and Human Rights

The four-year Bachelor of Civil Law (Human Rights) is an innovative and unique programme – the first of its kind in Ireland. It offers students the opportunity to combine a full undergraduate law programme with the study of human rights. The study of human rights involves gaining an understanding of how the international human rights treaties function as tools to ensure that states respect and protect the equal human dignity of all people. Students will learn about how human rights law develops, including the influence of activism and grassroots movements for social change. Human rights are not just legal concepts; therefore students on this course will have the opportunity to gain philosophical and political insights that will broaden their knowledge and deepen their critical thinking skills. Students will also study emerging areas of human rights law and contemporary issues of large-scale injustice such as climate change, the environment and human rights; data privacy; refugee rights; poverty; and business and human rights.
