This course provides an industry-focused grounding in theories and practices of Creative Industries and Visual Culture. In the first year, you’ll study a wide range of contemporary issues, including arts policy, management, criticism, media law, and current discussions in the fields of art, design, film, photography, curating, museums, media, aesthetics, gender studies, and postcolonial studies. After the shared first year, you will select your own pathway, focusing on either Creative Industries or Visual Culture. On the Creative Industries pathway you will study arts management, media law and cultural policy, while on the Visual Culture pathway you will study aesthetics, art and design history, museums, exhibitions and curating. Common core modules throughout the course foster an understanding of the relationship between culture and society, and its impact on wider issues of policy, economics, and identity. In addition to pathway selection, you will have an opportunity to further customise your learning, taking advantage of a wide range of specialist optional modules provided by Schools across the University, including modules in Languages, Creative Arts, Music and Drama, Architecture, Media, Hospitality and Tourism Management. The teaching on the course applies theory to practice and features project-based learning, work placements, and visits by leading industry practitioners. You will often share classes with practice-based students on Creative Arts courses, helping to develop future networks. Depending on your pathway, you can choose to take the placement module (Real-World Engagement) in Year 2. Our recent placement partners include the IFI, Little Museum of Dublin, 100Archive, Red Dog Design Consultants, IMMA, and Visual Artists Ireland. In Year 3 you will organise and curate public events, based on your own independent research.

The work of the Design – Visual Communication graduate is all about breathing life into images, text and concepts, turning them on their head and communicating them in a fresh way to a wide audience. This four-year course will suit you if you wish to become a graphic designer, illustrator, typographer or digital media designer. Through examining how image and text work together, you’ll learn how to design and visually communicate through print and digital media. The course is mainly based in a studio where you’ll work on a wide variety of projects that explore typography, image-making (illustration and photography) and digital media. Supporting the practice-based studio work, critical theory will introduce you to design practice and key issues in the history and theory of design. Modules include Visual Exploration & Design Process, What is Design?, Drawing, Design Applications, Design and Contemporary Society, Design for Print Media, Design for Digital Media, Image-Making, Design & Career Management, Modernism in Design, and Visual Communication. You can also take a number of optional modules from Fine Art and Interior & Furniture Design. In Years 3 and 4, several live projects are run with industry, cultural, not-for-profit organisations and community partners. Summer internships are encouraged and supported.

This is a three-year, full-time course in practical drama training and education. TU Dublin Conservatory has over 25 years’ experience in drama training and is one of the leading centres of education in the performing arts in Ireland. Our graduates have had national and international success as actors, directors, drama facilitators and drama researchers. You’ll study fundamental acting techniques, voice and language in performance (including Shakespeare), and performance in a variety of cultural, historical and aesthetic contexts. You’ll develop your body through movement, singing, dance and combat. You’ll learn how to use drama in social and educational contexts through performance and running workshops, and how to analyse and write about a wide range of drama and performance. Over the three years, there are two small-scale productions and large-scale graduating production. While practical performance is at the core of the course, you’ll be required to undertake substantial academic research and analysis as well.
