Bachelor of Science (Financial Mathematics and Economics)
Apply Now
The BSc in Financial Mathematics and Economics (BSc in FME) programme is a four-year degree programme consisting of courses in mathematics, economics, statistics/probability, applied mathematics, accounting and business finance, and computer science. The programme’s aim is to equip students with expertise in quantitative subjects, with a particular focus on financial economics, actuarial mathematics and statistics. There is a high demand from financial institutions for well-qualified students with quantitative skills, and in an expanding market, highly numerate professionals are being sought, particularly in the areas of insurance, investment and finance. Typically in such employment, you would be predicting the long-term financial consequences of current and past decisions, taking account of various risk factors, and designing solutions to problems that involve financial risk or uncertainty. The degree should appeal to people who enjoy mathematics and are interested in studying economics and other subjects in the financial area. (Please note that you do not have to study economics for the Leaving Certificate to be admitted to this course.) This degree has an advantage over other programmes, including specialised actuarial programmes, as it is broad and suits students not yet ready to specialise. The course is administered jointly by the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Business, Public Policy and Law. The entry requirements of either college may be applied, according to whichever is more advantageous to the applicant.

Bachelor and Master of Engineering (Mechanical)
Apply Now
Mechanical Engineering is a subject concerned with the design and manufacture of parts and systems that make up the range of machinery and equipment you see around you, from a can opener to a jet aircraft. Mechanical engineers design the tools and processes necessary to create all man-made products, and are often involved from conceiving of an idea right through to seeing it as a finished product ready for its commercial application. They design everything you think of as a device or machine. Devices used in engines, the components used in transportation, power conversion equipment, like the steam and wind turbines used in modern electric power plants, and processing equipment used in oil and gas rigs all come within the remit of the mechanical engineer.

(MSc) AgriFood Sustainability & Technology
Apply Now
The agrifood sector is Ireland’s largest indigenous industry employing over 150,000 people, involving over 600 leading companies, and generating an annual output of over €24 billion. Globally, food and agriculture (agrifood) is an US$8 trillion industry, responsible for feeding the planet and employing 40% of the global workforce. To meet demand for food, feed, fibre and other agri-derived products, our agriculture and food systems need to transition towards more sustainable models. This will require a focus on sustainability combined with technological, institutional, business and social innovations that can produce more agriproducts on the same footprint of land, while also reducing resource demands and the environmental footprint of agriculture. The University of Galway master's degree in AgriFood Sustainability & Technology generates graduates with the interdisciplinary skills to respond to such challenges and opportunities both in Ireland, and in other leading agrifood nations worldwide. The programme is run in collaboration with Ireland’s Agriculture and Food Authority (Teagasc) and other leading agrifood partners from Ireland and internationally. The programme provides a strong enabling platform for students to develop careers in the agrifood sector in Ireland and globally.
