BSc in Nursing (Children's and General integrated)

Nurses are problem-solvers with a natural tendency to care about how people feel and usually have qualities such as resilience, empathy, reliability, integrity and good communication skills are leading qualities in the nursing field. Nurses play a critical role in society, helping people to achieve, maintain or regain the best possible health while also offering patients support and dignity. During this course, you’ll develop deep nursing knowledge, along with skills such as critical thinking, reflective practice, research principles and problem-based learning. You’ll learn how to ensure the care you deliver as a compassionate and committed nurse is current and evidence-based. Extensive practical experience DCU offers this four-and-a-half-year course in partnership with health service providers from both the public and private healthcare sectors. You’ll complete several placements in each year of the programme, across adult and children’s hospitals as well as community facilities, along with a 36-week internship in years four and five. Once you graduate, you can apply to register as both a Children’s and a General nurse to the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). You’ll be qualified to work as a nurse in hospitals, the community, schools, and nursing homes in Ireland or overseas, with work opportunities in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US in particular. You can also choose to go on to postgraduate study.

Would you like a career providing holistic care to people with an intellectual disability? In this speciality field, intellectual disability nurses work as part of a cross-disciplinary team that strives to enable and empower people with intellectual disabilities to achieve their full potential. Intellectual disability can affect two aspects of people’s lives – their intellectual functioning (such as learning, problem solving, judgement) and their adaptive functioning (in activities of daily life such as communication and independent living). During this course, you’ll come to develop the professional knowledge, skills and attitudes you’ll need to care for people with intellectual disability. Combining theory and clinical practice You’ll study a diverse curriculum, incorporating both theory and clinical elements. Throughout the course, you’ll go on clinical placements to gain experience in areas such as childhood education and development, disorders of human behaviour, acute nursing and other specialist areas in disability care. Once you graduate, you can ??register as a nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI). As an intellectual disability nurse, you could work in acute care, respite care, community facilities, residential facilities, workshops, schools, retirement care, and home nursing. You could also work in disability and healthcare services, in areas such as management, education, other therapies and research. You’ll also be qualified to work abroad or could go on to further study.

Masters Engineering Qualifier - Electronic & Computer Engineering

Students who do not have the entry requirements to enter directly onto the Masters programmes may be offered entry on the Masters Qualifier Programme. The Master Qualifier contains the same modules as our Masters. Students on the Masters Qualifier Programme may transfer onto the Masters programme, subject to the transfer requirements and without loss of accumulated credits. A Graduate Certificate exit award is potentially available if a transfer to the Masters Programme is not possible or desirable however, a minimum of 4 advanced (Level 9) modules must be successfully completed in order to exit with a Graduate Certificate.
